Case 27 - Single Component - Silicone Backbedding

Window manufacturer

Application:

A bead of RTV silicone is applied to the inside of a window frame before the glass is put into place.  This bead of material is known as “backbedding”.  The glass or “lite” and frame together become a window.

Material Used:

One-component silicone from manufacturers such as Dow, General Electric, Pecora, Tremco and others.

Equipment/Solution:

23:1, 34:1, and 55:1 5-gallon or 55-gallon pumps are commonly used. 
Since silicones are moisture sensitive, Teflon or Moisture-Lok hoses are required. 
Manual guns are used for hand applications. 
Automatic snuff-back guns are used if the operation is done on an XY table. 
The PrecisionFlo LT may be used if a very precise bead is required.
